2020 has been a doozy. Like so many of you, for me the mental, emotional, and physical toll of COVID-19 has been palpable.
I lost my job as an athletic coach and substitute teacher. While the loss of both were jarring, losing my volleyball coaching job hurt the most.
Sports have always been my safe haven.
It was truly scary. Here we were in the middle of our season...everything was normal, we played on Thursday and fully expected to go back into practice after the weekend.
After all , we were playing two games the following week.
The news hit that there was a new virus going around. We were advised not to return to campus on Monday. Our school would be closed until April 15th.
My first thought was, how do I find out more? What do I tell the team?
The weekend was a blur of newsreels and advice to stay inside unless necessary to go out. My AD (athletic director) didn’t have all the answers and did his best to keep us informed.
What to do?
Once I digested that information, I knew that I needed to keep busy, but stay safe as well. Hmmmm… my school was closed, my gym was closed. Exercise was permitted, but limited.
In an ah hah! moment I realized that the great outdoors was calling. I am a runner after all.
But, what’s a runner without a great pair of sneakers?
QUE NIKE ZOOM…
As you know, searching online for the best running sneakers can bring you down a rabbit hole. You know you’ve done it before…So I searched for pictures and reviews from runners who had experience using the sneakers.
The one that stood out for me was the Nike Zoom.
Why? The colors…
White with an aquamarine blue Nike swoosh on the outer part and a purple swoosh on the inside.
The laser cutouts make it breathable (no stinky feet over here). While the black top adds a “wear me with anything” stylishness.
I was sold… Take all my money Nike.
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on one… off to Dick’s Sporting Goods store I go.
I was not disappointed at the store. I squealed in delight when I saw it.
As I slipped my sock covered feet in the shoe, the foam bottom greeted me like a long last friend. This was a comfortable sneaker.
Sneakers in hand, I was ready to hit the pavement.
My first day out was cushioned perfection.
The Zoom was light weight, fit snuggly, and moved with my foot strike.
My runs with Nike Zoom are perfect because I don’t have to worry about it falling off my feet, doubling up on my socks, or not having enough support.
Try it, do it, you’ll love it.
